£10,000 Day for Life funding allocated early

In just over six months, we have managed to allocate all £10,000 of the Day for Life funding we received last October. We supplied 35 grants to families all across the Diocese made up of 60 children and 50 adults with 15 children benefitting directly.  Families were supported in the following areas –

24 families in Plymouth, 2 in Saltash, 2 in Callington and one family in Wimborne, Bodmin, Newton Abbot, St Austell, Ivybridge, Poole and Totnes.

We supplied 70 items in total made up of –

17 cookers, 6 washing machines/dryers, 6 fridge freezers, 6 chests of drawers, 4 pushchairs/prams, 3 rugs, 8 stairgates, 9 sets of school uniform, 4 mattresses, and other items including a double bed, a high chair, a baby carrier, a microwave, table and chairs, a wardrobe, a cot bed and a baby steriliser.

Without this grant, it is highly likely that we would have had to turn some families away as we were inundated with applications just before and after Christmas.  Last year, we approved 214 grants compared to 141 the year before and 126 the year before that.  Already this year, we have processed 91 grants and we are only half way through May, so we may well approve a record number not seen since during Covid !

Thank you to everyone who supports the Day for Life fund each year and to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference (England and Wales) for continuing to support CCSP.
