Pro-Active Parenting Courses
The benefits of sharing ideas and experiences with other parents can last a lifetime
Parents and carers have a difficult and important job and through our Pro-active Parenting programme, we help and support our families within the Diocese.
We have been listening to the needs of the families and schools we have been supporting as the course now runs over two sessions, each 3.5 hours long, where we explore themes and strategies within the home to support everyday family life. These themes will be adapted to the setting to incorporate the primary years and then will be further adapted for the teenage years when we visit a secondary setting.
Session 1:
1. Parental Wellbeing
2. Needs vs Wants
3. Effective Praise and Communication
4. Boundary Setting and Responsibilities
5. Behaviour we don’t like and the Consequences
Session 2:
6. Anxiety and Attachment
7. Bereavement and Loss
8. Technology and the Family
These courses are designed as a coffee morning style with a facilitator, where parents can explore, share and support each other. There is no judgement and the courses are not designed especially for bad parents or parents of ‘naughty’ children. ‘Good enough’ is the goal, parenting is hard work so let us support, not stigmatise ! Many parents may have attended baby groups, breast feeding support groups, toddler sessions and this is just an extension of the parenting journey.
If your school/parish agrees to host a course, we will prepare all the advertising for you to send out to your parents via newsletters, social media and websites. Please contact our Parent Facilitator by emailing: sarah.watts@ccsplymouth.org.uk or by calling: 07794 657210.
There is no cost involved (SLA-CAST agreed) and all resources are prepared and provided by CCSP. You would just need to collate a list of parents/carers/grandparents and provide a room for us too. There will be no cost involved for the first ten courses booked in the Diocese in each academic year.
